First Day at Work

Wow, so the feel of working for a company that has over 400+ employees is completely different than working with smaller companies in the 40 employee range or so. First things first, my group has a personal secretary/assistant. It’s cool as hell to go ‘I’d like rice krispies’ and have her take a note and send someone out for it AND bills the company for it. Her sole purpose at the company is to ensure that my group is happy…SLICK!

It’s different working for a company where the average age is 40 compared to my previous employers where the average age was early 30’s. It’s definately nice to be able to gain so much respect from my co-workers already although I am by FAR the youngest one in the philadelphia office. I even had some cool conversations with a wharton professor who works for us and also is serving on the panel for the Secretary of Health (who is also the orginal founder) under President Bush.

So anyways besides the awe factor… my first day at work went like this:

8:30 – 2:00 CareScience 2005 Strategy/Summit
– i didn’t understand shit since it was my first day. I just watched all these big whiggs talk and took full advantage of the free food/drinks/soda at some fancy hotel.

2:30-4:00 Sat in some meeting with my Boss with his peers and listen to them discuss product structural changes.
– again I didn’t understand shit, although I did look smart because I suggested some Oracle improvements which they all liked, I just wished I knew what I suggested in context to how they are going to use it. Also I looked at the snow and all the cars out on the street driving slow for a super long time. They really shouldn’t have a buncha sofas in the smaller meeting room..

4:00-5:15 Filled out my ‘i’m not an illegal immigrant form’, listened in on how to use our intranet tools and found my cubicle
– herm…yahoo messenger, itunes, putty, yahoo games, skype, and a few other toys installed by default.
– they ordered my business cards and gave me some passwords…werdddd

So what did I learn from going to work today?

1.) Food/drinks are ALL $.25 here. So lunch and breakfast together would literally cost me like $1.00. That’s cereal, a sandwich, soda, and a snack/desert.

2.) There are a freaking shit load of Indians in the healthcare field! Shit I met a Minish, Vencat, Ashimar, Pretti, yadi yadi. Holy god are we are out numbered, there’s only 2 other asians other than me in the company.

3.) There are a shit load of acroynms in the healthcare field. CIA, CMS, CMS, DMG, etc etc. Yes and there are TWO CMS’s i learned about today..wtf kinda shit is that.

4.) I get a company cell phone so I can be reached when I am working at home. Yep…they don’t give a fuckkkkkk if i’m at the office or not….

5.) And last but not least…I learned how to take public transportation!!!!

I’m back!

“I never think, it’s already there
I find ways to say it, so you motherfuckers hear it
And when you hear it you feel it, you know its real so
This is how I live it, how it’s pictured for real…” – Memphis Bleek

Didn’t step foot into the house for more than 2 days and already bought a new toy…

No work for a week and being able to just be a bum sure feels nice. Wish me luck on choosing a company, mmmm..having companies bug YOU to work for them is a nice change in the market place. Maybe outsourcing was overhyped? Anyways, life is definately good….
