Having just tested on the 3 laptops that I am forced to carry around right now, I've gotten some amazing results with the EVDO card.
Here's a glimpse of what I'm getting at my brother's place in Egg Harbor Township, NJ..

Not bad for being indoors. The internet is VERY usable, much better than when I was tethering with my Motorola Q. With the Q the latency was always hovering over 300ms. This made browsing "feel" like the old days of having a modem.
I haven't had much time to test everything with the EVDO Rev A card, but I was able to try my VPN and play around with Remote Desktop on one of our servers and connection worked like a charm. Honestly this is faster than most wifi implimentations that I've seen and used for public consumption. This is WAY faster than what I used to get when I first moved to California and was leaching off Panera Bread at 10pm (meaning it was closed) at night to check my mail.
